After turning in his worst two outings of the season, the Phillies have seen enough of David Buchanan for the time being.
Buchanan was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Wednesday afternoon, following Tuesday night’s game against Arizona in which he allowed 11 runs on 11 hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
All the runs came in the second inning and were the second most runs the Diamondbacks scored in a single frame in club history. They scored 13 in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Pirates April 11, 2010.
The feat also was a first for a Phillies pitcher since May 5, 1938 when Hal Kelleher allowed a franchise-record 12 runs in the eighth inning of a game against the Cubs.
