The Phillies’ woes in the Bay Area continued with an 0-1 extra innings loss on Tuesday night to the San Francisco Giants after another stellar performance from the pitching staff was nullified by a tepid outing from the offense.
In his twelfth start of the season, Zack Wheeler pitched six shutout innings and added nine strikeouts to his season total, best for second in the NL.
Wheeler worked out of a few small jams but was dominant for the most part.
In response to the Phillies’ ace, the Giants opted to go with a bullpen game, utilizing five different relievers to complete the evening.
