Coming off a losing road trip, the Phillies wanted to start off their homestand on a good note. Thanks to a strong start from Aaron Nola, a dominating performance by the bullpen, and a two-run home run from Edmundo Sosa, they accomplished that goal by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2.
After both teams recorded scoreless first innings, the Phillies got on the board in the second. Alec Bohm led off with a single, advanced to third on Nick Castellanos’ opposite field double, and scored on a Brandon Marsh groundout. Not content with just one run in the inning, the Phillies added two more when Edmundo Sosa didn’t miss a Miles Mikolas slider.
