Odúbel Herrera’s remarkable catch in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday saved three things: a home run, the Phillies’ 2-1 lead and one heck of a jinx from John Kruk.
About one second after Kruk (accurately) mentioned the Marlins “don’t have a ton of power in this lineup,” Isan Díaz seemed poised to make him eat his words. Aaron Nola left a 93-mph fastball up in the zone, and the Miami second baseman lifted it 100 mph, 399 feet to straightaway center field.
As it turned out, Díaz needed 400 feet. Herrera got to the spot in plenty of time, waited and timed his leap perfectly to snag the would-be home run from just over the top of the tall center field fence at loanDepot park.
