WATCH: Francoeur’s Frozen Rope Gives Papelbon Phillies’ Saves Record

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s not often we get Phillies highlights these days, so we might as well enjoy them.

With a runner on third-base with one out in the ninth inning, the Phils held a one run lead on Wednesday’s night against the visiting Pirates. Jonathan Papelbon, facing Jordy Mercer, was looking for his record 113th save as a Phillie.

Papelbon forced Mercer to hit an ominous shallow fly ball to right-field. Pirates second baseman Steve Lombardozzi tug up from third-base, attempting to tie the game at three.

Francoeur came up slinging and nailed Lombardozzi at the plate to preserve the 3-2 Phillies win, making Papelbon the Phillies’ all-time saves leader.
