CLEARWATER, Fla. - Tyler Goeddel was told Friday morning that he was likely headed to double A, a year after he spent the entire season in the major leagues.
“I'm not too happy about that but you can't control it,” Goeddel said.
Goeddel, 24, batted .192 last season with a .258 on-base percentage as a rookie outfielder after the Phillies chose him with the first pick in the Rule 5 draft. He will go to Reading because there are no openings in triple A. Nick Williams, Roman Quinn, and Dylan Cozens having starting jobs. Brock Stassi will be the IronPigs designated hitter if he does not make the Phillies.
