Weston Wilson got hurt early in camp with an injury that is going to take quite a while to recover from. That leaves his (assumed) roster spot open to competition between a few players to grab and take hold of. Wilson’s ability to play the four corners - third and first base, left and right field - as well as doing so from the right side of the batters box put him ahead of others on the depth chart for that final spot. After all, the left handedness of this lineup is pretty well known, so having a capable right handed bat on the bench seemed like the best idea.
The race for the final bench spot starts to come into focus
