FOR PHILLIES third base coach Juan Samuel, there is one way for big-leaguers to do things: the right way. There's a right way to run bases, a right way to anticipate a flyball in the outfield, a right way to focus when you play infield.
It has always been this way for Samuel, ever since the Phillies in 1980 signed the 19-year-old five-tool talent, discovered playing softball in the Dominican Republic.
Samuel broke into the majors just in time to help the 1983 Phillies reach the World Series and played 16 years in the majors. He spent his first seven seasons in Philly - two as an All Star - before stints with the Mets, Dodgers, Royals, Reds, Tigers, and Blue Jays, playing mainly second base and outfield but filling in at first and third when needed.
