With the playoffs looming in the distance, teams are trying to figure out who will make a playoff start for them. Ideally, you want a pitcher who can go at least five innings of strong pitching before turning it over to a bullpen. Six innings is a gift. If there are three pitchers that can do this for a team, they have an advantage. Four of those pitchers, well, that’s just a luxury that most teams do not have. If one of them is injured, it can feel like the margin of error gets a lot thinner. When a team is going bad, that injury can loom large.
