Scott Kingery eased the pain from a weekend of missed opportunities in a lost series against the Mets, delivering a three-run double in the 8th inning to break a 2-2 tie and allow the Phillies to salvage a win from the three-game set. Before the big hit from the second-year man, the Phillies had gone 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position Sunday night—with one of those hits ending in a runner thrown out at the plate—following a 1 for 9 performance in Saturday’s 6-3 loss.
Kingery’s heroics also helped take Gabe Kapler and Hector Neris off the hook after a brutal top of the eighth.
