PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies have their utility infielder for 2017.
Sources confirmed a CSNPhilly.com report the team has agreed to terms Wednesday with Andres Blanco, who will sign a one-year, $3 million contract. Blanco, 32, has hit .274 with 12 home runs, 49 RBIs and a .795 OPS in 523 plate appearances the past three seasons with the Phillies.
The Phillies need to make room for Blanco on the 40-man roster.
The Phillies did not have a utility infielder, specifically one that could play shortstop and second base, on the 40-man roster, making it a necessity they acquire somebody for that role.
