The Phillies yesterday made some changes that had curious timing. A few days after the team was forced to demote their former top prospect because of his struggles, the Phillies dismissed their two assistant general managers and their director of player development.
It’s not really all that surprising, but it does show that perhaps the evaluation period of Dave Dombrowski’s tenure is now over and he is ready to move. The trade that he made for Kyle Gibson was made because any team that is close to the playoffs can make a trade. That doesn’t really signify an organizational shift in philosophy.
