While most of us expected Zack Wheeler to make the All-Star team (he maybe even should start it), few people thought J.T. Realmuto would make the team. Usually, you’d think that maybe if there were three catchers going, he’d have an outside shot at making it, but since they only carried two, other players would get the nod. Will Smith (.261/.363/.462, 10 HR, 29 RBI) and Omar Narvaez (.303/.395/.462, 7 HR, 31 RBI) were probably better choice, with a case to made for Willson Contreras (.235/.343/.432, 13 HR, 35 RBI) making over Realmuto as well. In the end, as with every All-Star game in professional sports, reputation has a lot of weight and Realmuto’s reputation is higher than those three.
