MIAMI – Rhys Hoskins tested his sore hand in the Marlins Park batting cage on Sunday morning but felt enough discomfort that Phillies manager Pete Mackanin left Hoskins out of the lineup for the first time since he reached the majors.

“It’s just pretty sore,” Hoskins said. “We’ll see what they have for me to do today and see how it feels tomorrow.”

Hoskins injured his hand on Saturday night when he was hit by a 98-mph fastball. He initially stayed in the game before being removed. He had X-rays after the game and the results were negative.
