Report: Phillies interviewed Cardinals executive for GM post

The St. Louis Cardinals' director of player personnel, Matt Slater, interviewed last week for the Phillies' vacant general manager position, according to MLB.com.

Slater has been in his current position with the Cardinals since January 2012 and has worked for the organization since 2007. He previously worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers, who hired him as a scouting and player development assistant when he was just 19 years old.

Slater worked in Baltimore as administrator of scouting from 1995 to '98, so he did not work under new Phillies president Andy MacPhail when MacPhail led the Orioles (2007-11).
