PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — He’s not sure where and he’s not sure when, but CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury says a “baseball source with knowledge” tells him that “Jonathan Papelbon will be traded.”
The Nationals are reportedly interested in Papelbon, but the 34-year-old Phillies closer has made it clear he wants to remain a closer. Papelbon can block a trade to the Nats, who already have a viable closer in Drew Storen. Storen, 27, is third in the National League with 29 saves.
Papelbon has a $13 million option for next season, which will become guaranteed after he finishes 14 more games.
