J.T. Realmuto had one of the best defensive seasons for a Phillies catcher. On Monday he was rewarded for his efforts. Major League Baseball named Realmuto as the National League Gold Glove winner for the position of catcher. It is the first time in his career that Realmuto won the Gold Glove.
Realmuto is the first Phillie to win the Gold Glove award since 2012, and the first Phillies catcher to win it since Mike Lieberthal won the award in 1999. Realmuto threw out 43 runners attempting to steal. That is 16 more than the next catcher in baseball.
