When you’re a team that won as many games as the 2024 Phillies did, it’s inevitable to have a few champagne problems pop up along the way for the pessimistic side of the fandom to gripe about. One such concern was for the backup catcher position. Sure, the team is blessed to have a starter in JT Realmuto who is driven to (and mostly has) started 130 games behind the plate every year, leaving about a game a week to (mostly) Garrett Stubbs. This arrangement has run like clockwork every year since Realmuto joined the team in 2019…except in 2024.
