The Phillies offense was nearly dormant on Wednesday night for much of a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park. They were hitless for four straight innings. Their starting pitcher dug them into a quick three-run hole.
Yet they somehow still had a chance. Jeff Francoeur blasted a two-run homer in the eighth after Odubel Herrera singled to center. But the comeback fell short. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth. The offensive eruption never came. It was only the team's fourth loss in 17 games.
Aaron Harang allowed four runs in five innings.
