Years ago, a dread tide washed over parents from coast to coast. Their children, once wide-eyed and cheerful tykes, began to issue endless demands, alternately plaintive and vituperative, for pieces of decorated cardboard. And a single purchase of said cardboard would not be enough, no. There were many such pieces to collect, and some, of course, were much cooler than others, winning the greatest bragging rights in the schoolyard. But the children would receive their just desserts: so it was that after many bitter, internecine disagreements over how much of one’s allowance could or should be spent on cardboard, and whether or not it was permissible to seek advances on one’s allowance for further purchases of said cardboard, the children grew into adults and discovered upon further review that their parents had long since thrown out the cardboard, which was now worth many thousands of dollars, potentially.
