Kendrick's left hand is fine. He suffered a bruise and could be ready to play before the end of the weekend. The Nationals felt comfortable with that, sending Class A left-hander McKenzie Mills and international amateur signing bonus-pool space to the Phillies. The Phillies included cash in the deal.
"We were confident there would be a market for him," Phillies general manager Matt Klentak said. "It developed a little bit later maybe than the one did for Pat Neshek largely because Howie wasn't on the field for some stretches this year. He's healthy now and ready to go.
