The Phillies avoided arbitration with Freddy Galvis by signing him Wednesday to a one-year, $2 million deal, according to multiple reports.
Galvis, who made $513,500 in 2015, was arbitration-eligible for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old shortstop is widely viewed as a placeholder for the team's top prospect, J.P. Crawford, who could assume the starting job by 2017.
Galvis posted a .645 OPS last season in a career-high 603 plate appearances.
The Phillies have two remaining players - Jeremy Hellickson and Jeanmar Gomez - eligible for arbitration. Each side must exchange figures Friday if no deals are reached before then.
