A familiar scene unfolded Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. Five days after Colorado Rockies righthander Chad Bettis held the Phillies without a hit through 71/3 innings, the Cincinnati Reds' Mike Leake took his turn against baseball's lowest-scoring offense.
But even after Leake no-hit the Phillies through 62/3 innings, Maikel Franco changed the game by trumping his performance from the previous night. The rookie third baseman smacked a game-tying, three-run home run off hard-throwing Reds closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Phillies went on to win, 5-4, in 11 innings.
Cody Asche scored the winning run when Reds reliever Ryan Mattheus dropped a toss from first baseman Joey Votto on a routine Freddy Galvis ground ball.
