PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies' bullpen wasted a masterful performance from Aaron Nola on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, blowing a one-run lead in the ninth inning in a crushing 5-4 loss to the Nationals.
Nola allowed two runs (one earned) in seven innings, but after Tommy Hunter walked Bryce Harper to start the ninth, Pat Neshek allowed a two-run home run to Anthony Rendon to hand the Nationals a 4-3 lead. Washington tacked on a run on a throwing error by Jorge Alfaro.
The Phillies had a rally going in the ninth, and cut the lead to one on Wilson Ramos' double.
