PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Cole Hamels will not make his expected start on Friday night, as the Phillies begin a weekend series against the National League leading St. Louis Cardinals.
Hamels will not pitch due to a mild right hamstring strain, the team announced on Thursday afternoon. The Phillies will start 26-year-old righty Phillippe Aumont, who will be called up from Triple-A, in place of Hamels.
Hamels is 5-5 this season with a 2.96 ERA. He is tied for the major league lead with 14 starts and is fifth in baseball with 94.1 innings pitched.
Aumont has appeared in 14 games (10 starts) all with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs this season.
