Phillies Turn Triple Play In Win Over Padres

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Pinch-hitter Tommy Joseph’s had a tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh inning as the Philadelphia Phillies took advantage of a key San Diego error and then turned the first triple play in Petco Park history in a 6-5 victory over the Padres on Sunday.

Rookie shortstop Jose Rondon’s throwing error on Cesar Hernandez’s grounder leading off the seventh against Brad Hand (3-3) allowed the Phillies’ hitter to reach second base safely. Hernandez scored the tiebreaking run two outs later on Joseph’s single to left.

The Padres were gifted two walks to open the bottom of the seventh.
