The Philadelphia Phillies announced Tuesday that they have traded RHP Édgar García to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later.
To make room for Alec Bohm, García, 23, was designated for assignment this past Thursday. Garcia would have had to clear waivers to stay in the Phillies organization.
The Phillies signed García in 2014 out of the Dominican Republic.
García saw extended time at the major-league level last year as the Phillies battled numerous injuries within the bullpen. One area where the right-hander saw success last year was with his slider.
