CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Phillies acquired ambidextrous relief pitcher Pat Venditte on Sunday in a trade with Seattle. Venditte, who has spent parts of the last two seasons in the majors, has pitched with his right and left hand.
Venditte, 31, pitched just 22 innings last season with Toronto and Seattle. Baseball created a rule before his debut in 2015 with Oakland, forcing ambidextrous pitchers to indicate before an at-bat what hand the pitcher intended to use.
He has a career 4.97 ERA in 50 2/3 innings since entering the majors with Oakland in 2015. Venditte spent most of last season in triple A.
