PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — In the finale of 2016’s opening series, the Phillies were swept by the Reds on Thursday afternoon 10-6. It’s the first time the Phils have been swept in a season’s opening series since 2007.
Charlie Morton got the start for the Phils, allowing six earned runs in just 3.2 innings thanks to a monster eight-run Reds fourth-inning, capped by a Eugenio Suarez grand slam off of lefty reviler Daniel Stumpf.
Jay Bruce hit his first of two home runs in the fourth-inning as well, a three-shot off of Morton.
On a positive note, Ryan Howard was 2-5, including a 5th-inning two-run homer his first of the year.
