Phillies Sign Free Agent Reliever Ernesto Frieri

The 30-year old Frieri was the closer for the Los Angeles Angels during parts of the 2012-14 seasons, including the entirety of 2013 when he saved 37 games for the Halos.

In all, Frieri recorded 71 Saves during his time with the Angels before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in June of 2014 in exchange for reliever Jason Grilli.

Frieri was originally signed back in 2003 by the San Diego Padres as an amateur free agent out of Colombia. After pitching most of his early years in the San Diego minors system as a reliever, the Padres gave him a shot as a starting pitcher in both the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
