Phillies release pitcher Dalier Hinojosa from minor league deal

Once believed to be a veteran piece of the Phillies bullpen going forward, Dalier Hinojosa never got a great opportunity with his new club.

The 31-year-old Cuban defector was notified by the club that they will release him from his minor league contract, making him a free agent.

Hinojosa was not on Philadelphia’s 40-man roster despite being with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

After defecting from Cuba in 2013, Hinojosa signed with the Red Sox, but made only one major league appearance.

Philadelphia claimed Hinojosa off waivers in the summer of 2015, where he was effective in the bullpen with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.
