Nick Fanti threw his second no-hitter of the season Monday afternoon, but this time, the Phillies prospect did it all by himself.
Fanti, a lefthander with single-A Lakewood, struck out 12. His lone baserunner reached on a second-inning walk. He retired the final 22 batters. Fanti threw 112 pitches, 77 for strikes. The BlueClaws had just two hits and the game lasted just 1 hour, 49 minutes.
He is the first Lakewood pitcher to throw a nine-inning no-hitter in a winning effort. Gavin Floyd pitched a no-hitter in 2002, but the BlueClaws lost, 1-0.
Fanti recorded the first 26 outs on May 6 before giving way to Trevor Bettencourt, who retired the final out to complete the no-hitter.
