Phillies prospect Jesen Therrien now a free agent

Jesen Therrien, who will likely miss the entire 2018 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, became a free agent on Monday evening when the team removed the reliever from the 40-man roster.

The Phillies also made Pedro Florimon a free agent and activated Zach Eflin, Jerad Eickhoff, and Vince Velasquez from the 60-day disabled list in a bit of housekeeping as free agency began.

Therrien, a hard-throwing righthander, showed some promise last season after joining the team at the end of July. It is possible that the Phillies could sign Therrien to a minor-league deal and have him rehab the injury with the team before rejoining them in 2019.
