From 1986-1988, the Philadelphia Phillies won just an average of 77 games a season. The World Series win in 1980 and appearance in 1983 kept flying by in the rearview mirror. Things were similar to the 2012-2015 Phillies, including a great closer.
Steve “Bedrock” Bedrosian saved 103 games in his Phillies career, 3rd most all-time for the Phillies. After being a starter for the 1985 Atlanta Braves, Bedrock would record 28+ saves for the Phillies in 3 straight years.
In 1987, he led the league with 40 saves. A weak pitching year also led Bedrock to a Cy Young win over the Cub’s Rick Sutcliffe.
