Drew Anderson, who was just promoted to triple A a day earlier, joined the Phillies on Wednesday, but his role here was uncertain.
The Phillies said on Tuesday that they planned to start Jake Thompson on Thursday, which would mean that Anderson might be with the team for just a day to give relief to the bullpen after Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Anderson had a 3.59 ERA in 21 starts this season for double-A Reading. The 23-year-old righthander struck out 86 and walked 40 in 107 2/3 innings. He had been expected to start Wednesday for triple-A Lehigh Valley before being promoted to the Phillies.
