CLEARWATER, Fla. - What little drama remains in Phillies camp could be resolved this weekend when the team is forced to render decisions about some non-roster players who could be a part of the bench.
Outfielder Chris Coghlan and catchers Ryan Hanigan and Bryan Holaday - all in camp on minor-league contracts - can ask for their release this weekend if the Phillies do not place the veterans on the 40-man roster.
"We have to really bear down," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "We're having a meeting in the next few days to go over that."
Most of the bench decisions hinge on whether prospect Andrew Knapp will be the backup catcher as expected.
