PHOENIX - It had been a while since the Phillies endured a loss the way they did Monday night.
But baseball's hottest-second half team was doomed by woeful pitching in a series-opening 13-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. The National League West's third-best team racked up 17 hits, nine for extra bases, and scored 11 runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings against Aaron Harang and two relievers.
Harang's post-May struggles continued in his third start back from the disabled list. The 37-year-old righthander was tagged for eight runs over 51/3 innings. Seven of the 12 hits charged to him went for extra bases.
