For the third consecutive year, the Phillies will play in the postseason. They clinched a playoff berth last Friday with a win over the Mets. They clinched their first NL East title in 13 years on Monday with a win over the Cubs. They still have something to play for.
“We still have a carrot out there,” Rob Thomson said before Tuesday’s game. “We gotta do everything we can to get the bye.”
The Phillies want rest. It would do them some good. They don’t want their season to come down to a best-of-three Wild Card Series, either.
