Phillies must avoid long-term, lucrative contracts

IF NOTHING ELSE, the Phillies' 13-5 record since the All-Star break has offered us a reminder of how much fun it is to have a winning baseball team in town. It also offers us a good opportunity to think about the next couple of seasons.

Make no mistake: The Phillies are still likely to be among the worst teams in the majors next year, and they won't contend in 2017, either. The simple truth is that it will be almost impossible to cobble together a rotation that would be deep enough for even an average offense to win regularly.
