Phillies moving former catching prospect Tommy Joseph to first base

After a series of concussions, the Philadelphia Phillies are transitioning former catching prospect Tommy Joseph to first base.

“He’s not going to catch going forward,” said director of player development Joe Jordan. “We’re not going to expose him to that type of risk. Tommy is very excited about the move and anxious to get back on the field playing again.”

Jospeh is hitting just .123/.135/.178 at Triple-A this season so the question will be whether or not the 23-year-old’s bat is potent enough to make it to the big leagues.

“All the way back to high school in 2009, his bat was his carrying tool,” Jordan said.
