Having the number one overall pick in any sport typically means two things: your current team is horrible, but down the line there is potential to be a powerhouse.
Baseball America went back and graded the drafts and players from this years class, and the Phillies were well represented. BA, one of the top baseball scouting organizations, graded the Phillies draft as the fourth best class of 2016. Only the Braves, Reds, and Brewers class was deemed stronger than Philadelphia’s.
First-overall pick Mickey Moniak received several recognitions from BA, including the second-best pure hitter of the draft class.
