Phillies lose opener to the Giants, 5-4

FOR THE THIRD time in four games, Maikel Franco hit a game-tying home run.

Franco's fifth home run since joining the Phillies on May 15 gave the sleepy crowd of 20,638 at Citizens Bank Park a brief buzz in the sixth inning.

But for the seventh time in his eight starts since the beginning of May, Jerome Williams failed to pitch beyond the fifth inning. He couldn't even complete the fifth inning on Friday against the San Francisco Giants - Williams was lifted with two runners on and one out in the inning.

The game was turned over to the bullpen prematurely, which almost never leads to a positive outcome in baseball.
