Scott Kingery can run a 60-yard dash in a time that is just a notch behind some of baseball's fastest runners. He ran the bases quick enough in college to earn the nickname "Scotty Jetpacks." And Kingery is on pace this season to reach his goal of 40 stolen bases.
The Phillies' second-base prospect is certainly fast. But Kingery said it takes more than just speed to command the base paths. Kingery, who was drafted in last June's second round, worked in the offseason to become a better and smarter runner. He tweaked the way he takes a lead at first base, which helped him steal nine bases in his first 30 games at high-A Clearwater.
