Phillies introduce 'unusually polished' top pick

IT WAS about this time last year when Aaron Jersild first got a chance to see the sweet-swinging high school junior from Georgia.

Jersild, a former Clemson pitcher and the Phillies' area scout in Georgia, watched Cornelius Randolph, a lefthanded-hitting shortstop from Griffin High who had committed to Clemson, and filed a glowing report.

"He was an unusually polished high school hitter, and you just don't see that every day with what we do," Jersild said yesterday at Citizens Bank Park.

Jersild watched Randolph "a handful" of times last summer, then got reacquainted with him this spring.
