Phillies interviewing Dusty Baker for manager position

The Phillies will interview former Nationals and Reds manager Dusty Baker for their vacant manager position, according to Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today says the interview will happen on Wednesday, and it will be Baker’s first interview for a manager position since he was fired by the Nationals after a 97 win season in 2017.

Gonzales notes that Baker, 70, is currently a special advisor in the Giants organization where former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler is interviewing to replace Bruce Bochy.

Baker managed Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper for two years in Washington when the Nationals won at least 95 games in both of Bakers seasons but failed to advance deep in the playoffs.
