CLEARWATER, Fla. - Charlie Morton made his first start of spring training Sunday as he became the first Phillies pitcher in camp to pitch more than two innings in a 6-5 win over the New York Yankees at Bright House Field.
Morton, who was acquired from Pittsburgh in December, allowed one earned run in 21/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one. The righthander threw 47 pitches, 32 of which were strikes. He retired his first six batters, four on ground outs. Morton's lone single allowed was a ground ball to the outfield. His start came nine days after he had last thrown to batters.
