Phillies Hire Andy MacPhail

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Phillies have hired Andy MacPhail as new President of the Phillies effective at the conclusion of the 2015 season, as part owner John Middleton announced during a press conference on Monday afternoon. MacPhail will immediately begin working with the Phillies as an assistant to current President Pat Gillick.

“To us the ideal candidate was someone who had won multiple World Series titles, but equally important, had taken multiple teams over many years—successfully built them up—and taken them to the post season,” Middleton said.

MacPhail previously served as general manager of the World Series winning Minnesota Twins (1987, 1991), president of the Chicago Cubs, and president of baseball operations with the Baltimore Orioles.
