The Philadelphia Phillies are parting ways with manager Joe Girardi, the team announced Friday morning.
The Phillies were 132-141 under Girardi in three seasons and have a 22-29 record so far in 2022. Bench coach Rob Thomson will serve as interim manager.
Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia first reported on Friday that a managerial change could be in the works. The Athletic‘s Jayson Stark then confirmed that Girardi is on his way out, with Thomson taking over.
After missing the postseason in Girardi’s first two seasons in Philadelphia, the team continued to add talent this past offseason, spending over the luxury-tax threshold for the first time in team history.
