PHILADELPHIA — Following a four-game sweep on their home field at the hands of the Mets, the Phillies were looking to turn the tables and wrap up a three-game sweep of the Padres at Citizens Bank Park after taking the first two games.
But the main attraction in Philadelphia Sunday was not whether the Phillies could win their third straight, it was Alec Asher, one of five prospects acquired in the deal that sent Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman to Texas, who was making his major league debut.
Asher pitched well, but once again the bullpen failed to keep the Phillies close as they were unable to complete the sweep, losing to San Diego 9-4.
