Phillies Eyeing 8 Candidates for Director of Scouting

It’s easy to forget, but the Philadelphia Phillies have another vacancy to fill this offseason in addition manager, pitching coach, and hitting coach.

They also need to hire a new director of scouting, a role which opened in early September when Johnny Almarez voluntarily stepped down for personal reasons.

While general manager Matt Klentak and company lead the manager search, assistant general manager Bryan Minniti is leading the search to replace Almarez, notes NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury.

According to Salisbury, the Phillies have already held numerous interviews for the position, including internal candidates Greg Schilz, Mike Koplove and Darrell Conner; and external, high-ranking scouting candidates David Crowson of the Miami Marlins, Sam Hughes of the Chicago Cubs, Brian Barber of the New York Yankees, Dan Ontiveros of the Kansas City Royals, and Scott Meaney of the Cleveland Indians.
